In the UK, 8 million disposable nappies are used every day. One baby’s disposable nappies will fill 40 black sacks per year. Take into consideration that the average baby wears nappies for 2.5 years, and it is no wonder that the time has come to take nappies out of landfill.
The use of nappies has increased over the last 20 years due to convenience. In a recent poll by Ask-A-Mum, 93% of parents reported that they do feel a degree of guilt when throwing nappies in the rubbish. Nine out of ten parents stated that they would segregate nappies for collection. And, 83% said that they would support a fortnightly collection if they knew the nappies would not be taken to landfill.
Even though 80% of new parents polled revealed that they did not know that nappy recycling was possible, 95% wanted it in their area and 64% were even willing to pay for nappy recycling.
Nappies do not belong in landfills
Imagine how happy parents would know that their baby is being cared for in a loving environment that includes loving the environment.
It is the children that you care for today that will inherit the Earth tomorrow.
