Knowaste appoints local authority advisers

Knowaste has announced the appointment of Nicki Souter Associates as local authority adviser to support councils who are introducing AHP recycling collections.

The appointment will support the next stage of Knowaste’s UK expansion, as the company embarks on developing a new 36,000 tonne Absorbent Hygiene Products site in the South East. Nicki Souter Associates will work with the Knowaste team to provide direct communications project management support and if required technical advice to councils to help them plan and implement their AHP collections.

Nicki Souter Associates are currently working with a number of Scottish local authorities to develop communication materials to accompany changes to waste and recycling collections, as well as supporting the introduction of new recycling collections through doorstep engagement with residents to encourage participation.

Their expertise was fundamental to the success of the ZeroWaste Scotland nappy recycling trial and they will play an integral part in the future development of AHP recycling sites in the UK”.

Nicki Souter Associates is a consultancy which specialises in developing specific communications guidance on implementing collection services, including:

• Internal and external communication strategy development
• Development of communication materials
• Methods to effectively encourage, enable and engage residents and businesses to participate in recycling services
• Monitoring and evaluation, including doorstep and online surveys
• Community engagement
• Internal and external communications training.

Dr Nicki Souter, Director of Nicki Souter Associates, said: "Knowaste is a truly innovative venture that tackles the overlooked issue of AHP waste in the UK to reduce waste and produce useful recycled products. Dr Souter herself has over 20 years’ experience of delivering effective consumer and non-consumer research programmes, as well as developing successful internal and external communication strategies and campaigns for the Resource Management Sector. She is a member of the CIWM Scottish Centre Council and the UK CIWM Communications Committee.

The team at Nicki Souter Associates have a wealth of experience and expertise in working with local authorities, businesses and third-sector organisations in delivering resource management behaviour change.
