Recycling and Waste Management exhibition – The outcomes

Thousands of visitors descended on the Resource Waste Management (RWM) show at the Birmingham NEC last month to explore the latest innovations in waste and recycling.

The 2014 event saw over 200 speakers and more than 750 exhibitors take part in the three-day event organised in partnership with the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) and supported by the Environmental Services Association (ESA).

Amongst the UK’s greatest innovations was Knowaste’s unique absorbent hygiene product (AHP) recycling technology which received wide acclaim from visitors and exhibitors alike. We were proud to share our technology with the community and share best practice with other innovative companies within the industry.

The Knowaste recycling process helps local authorities, healthcare, residential care, day care and washroom service providers, improve sustainability and, in the long term, avoid the increasing costs of sending waste to landfill.

The most eye-catching was the Silver Lady traditional Routemaster bus used to showcase WasteCare’s new app, which was launched at the show. The app called ‘myWaste’ allows users to access accounts, get instant quotes, book collections and carry out other tasks such as racking waste and have access to a 24/7 emergency helpline.

One of the aims is to provide their customers with a way to minimise recycling costs and maximise recovery value. Plus, the app allows the user to calculate carbon reductions for different waste streams and methods. This is definitely an area worth watching in the near future.

Overall, the event was hailed a great success, partly down to the change in venue at the NEC in Birmingham to larger halls; the largest exhibitions rooms in the UK.

We greatly look forward to attending more events in the coming months so keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook page and Twitter feed @knownappywaste or visit our website for further details on our processes www.knowaste.com.
